To make your blog worth revisiting you need to think about the type of content that is suitable for your blog in order to make it readable and, possibly, profitable.

First off, I want you to understand that your blog can have no fixed scope, which means you can write about whatever you are interested in. You blog could target a specific topic and you can stick to that. In a minute you will see why either may be the reason a visitor first comes to your blog but it is not the main reason they will come back, again and again.

The difference between a blog worth revisiting and one that is forgotten about is the way the blog is written. Just imagine, would you prefer to read your university professor’s lecture notes or read the latest novel by your favorite author?

I can confidently say that you prefer to read the novel because it appeals more to your interest and because it is not as mind-numbing as the lecture notes by your professor.

The most important point to remember is - people like to read “light” stuff most of the time. You see, when people visit your blog, they are not only looking for information, they are also looking for information they can obtain easily. They want it in a relaxed manner, entertaining if possible, and fast.

You might be thinking - “I cannot write that way. I never could get the hang of it”. I assure you, you can write that way.

Here are some key points that will transform your writing style.

Before you write one word of your post, write a compelling headline to grab their attention. For example, the title of the article you are reading right now - “Blog Content Is About You!”. This title probably attracted you to read the article.

Why?

Because it is about “You”!

Avoid using vulgar language unless you don’t care about turning off a major audience of blog readers who will be offended. There are many blogs I will never visit again because of vulgarity.

Another important key point is to avoid addressing your reader as a plural unit, that is, as - “we”, “us”, etc. Sometimes this is appropriate but most times it is to be avoided. You should not write as if you are preparing a lecture. Instead, you should write as if you are having a conversation with one person because this will make your visitor think of you more as a personal friend rather than a professional writer or professor.

I learned this one-to-one technique as a Radio and Television News broadcaster. I imagined I was giving the news to just one friendly person who was interested in what I had to say and who trusted me. I wrote the stories and voiced them as if I were telling the stories only to a single person. In other words, I write like I talk.

Remember this - most of your readers have a High School education or less! Stay away from multiple syllabic words that a professor might use. You are shooting for the mass audience for the greatest exposure possible even if you are in a specific niche. Think of all the highly simplified “Dummies” books that have sold millions of copies because they take the complex and explain it for a mass audience.

The most important change in your writing style is to establish your own personality through your words. Because you are reading this article I assume you are a very curious person, just like I am. Based on the headline, you wanted to know what this article was all about. As you read, you likely are thinking - “Who is this writer?”. It follows that your visitors come to your blog to find out as much about you as the information you are offering them. I hope I am giving you some insight into who I am as a person and how I think because, in reality, I am using all the pointers in this article to demonstrate that they work.

You make your blog distinctive - not the subject of your blog! Having your distinctive personality show through in your blog will make all the difference between your blog about gadgets and all the other blogs about gadgets out there. Get the idea?

Let me repeat for emphasis: You make your blog distinctive - not the subject of your blog!

This is a lot like creating your own brand name, where people immediately remember your blog name when they need to find out information about gadgets, or whatever you regularly write about. Which company do you think about when it comes to hamburgers or athletic shoes? You know who I mean. They are the brand names. You can be a brand name too!

Still think you can’t do it? I challenge you to write just one blog post using the pointers I have given you and see what happens. Call it - “My Personal Opinion about (whatever)!”. And, let your personality out of prison, just once!

5 Ways You Can Go Wrong With Your Article Resource Box

Article resource box is a vital part of every article. The same article could get none to hundreds or thousands of visitors just because of a resource box. You can’t just write a few lines without a strategy and expect it to work. It doesn’t work that way.

Here are 5 ways you can go wrong with your article resource box:

1. Blatant self-promotion

Although you’re allowed to promote yourself in the resource box doesn’t mean that you should do so. The readers never care about you but how could you help them. Think of ways on how you can move the credibility you’ve built so far to the next level. Give them even more information or value.

2. Award showcase

The resource box is not the place for show all your accomplishments. You may use one or two that is very relevant to boost your credibility, but much of the credibility is earned by demonstrating your expertise within the article body. If you give them valuable information, they will know it.

3. No call to action

People may think they’re smart enough to take action without being told about what to do. The fact is exactly the opposite though. People are confused about what to do next unless you tell them what to do, although they may not admit it.

If you want them to visit your site to get more information or subscribe to your e-newsletter, say it. Give a reason why they should do it, perhaps give them a special report for download when they subscribe.

4. No links
Giving the readers at least a link to click and a strong reason for them to do so is the key to getting traffic from your articles.

Don’t waste the virtual real estate. You want to include at least one link to your web site.

5. No keyword targeted anchor text

Don’t include just a link. Use keyword focused anchor text (the text used as a live link) because search engines think the page that is linked using the anchor text must be relevant for that keyword.

You may want to diversify the anchor text links to make it appear as natural links, but still such links are important. The best way is to use anchor text but still keep the full live URL in the resource box so web site owners who decide to copy and paste your articles still have the link of your site in the resource box.

Copyright protection is on everyone’s mind. It seems that as we turn on the radio there is another piece pertaining to it. Turn on the radio and a famous actor or musician is supporting the importance of it. From Youtube and file sharing controversies to movie duplication, copyright is everywhere. In this article we will define copyright and at a high level, look at the reasons why creative individuals would copyright their work and list work types that can be copyrighted.

Copyright explained

Copyright is a set of limited rights regulating the use of a individual expression of a thought or information. In its simplest form, it is actually “the right to copy” an original creation. Usually, these rights are of restricted time. The mark for copyright is , and in some jurisdictions may alternatively be written as either (c) or (C).

The rules of copyright

Copyright may apply to a variety of creative, conceptual, or artistic forms or “works”. These include poems, theses, theatrical plays, and other literary works, movies, choreographic works (dances, ballets, etc.), musical compositions, audio recordings, paintings, sculptures, photographs, drawings, software, radio and television performances of live and other broadcasts, and, in some regions, industrial designs. Designs or industrial designs may have distinct or intersecting laws applied to them in some countries. Copyright is one of the laws covered by the overarching term ‘intellectual property’.

Copyright exclusions

Copyright law covers only the unique form or manner in which ideas or information have been manifested, the “form of material expression”. It is not designed or intended to cover the actual idea, concepts, facts, styles, or mechanics which may be represented by the copyright product.

For example, the copyright for the Donald Duck cartoon prevents unauthorized individuals from distributing copies of the cartoon or creating derivative works which mimic the Donald Duck cartoon.

But it does not prevent anyone from creating a cartoon duck. As long as it is different enough from Donald Duck. Other laws may demand legal limitations on reproduction or use where copyright doesn’t. That’s when trademarks and patents can be applied.

How long are you protected

Copyright has a variety of time periods in different jurisdictions, with different categories of works and the length it endures also depends on whether your work is published or unpublished. In most areas the default duration of copyright for many works is life of the author plus 50 years. The copyright always expires at the end of the year concerned, rather than on the exact date of the death of the author.

Public domain

So when is a book is in the public domain? In the u.s., all books and other items published before 1923 have expired copyrights and are in the public domain, and all works created by the United states government, regardless of date, enter the public domain upon their creation.

But if the intended use of the book includes publication (or distribution of a film based on the book) outside the U.s., the arrangement of copyright around the world must be studied.

If the author has been dead more than 70 years, the work is in the public domain in most areas.

Can you transfer your copyright

Under the U.s. Copyright Act, if you want to transfer ownership of your copyright it must be transferred in writing. No special transfer paperwork is required. A simple written note that lists the work involved and the rights being conceded is adequate.

Non-exclusive grants (often called non-exclusive licenses) need not be in writing under United states law. A non-exclusive grant is when you allow someone to utilize your work by giving them your go-ahead. For example, you allow a writer to include a paragraph of your textbook in his work. Your permission can be oral or even implied based on the behavior of all the individuals involved.

Transfers of copyright ownership, including exclusive licenses should be formally noted in the U.S. Copyright Office. While recording is not mandated to make the grant effective, it offers important benefits, just like you would get from filing a real estate deed when you buy a property.

File your forms

You can download the paperwork yourself from the US Copyright Office at www.copyright.gov. This is the cheapest option available, at the time of this writing the US Copyright Office frequently charges $30 per submission. You will need to choose the right form for your work type, but the Copyright Office does a fairly good job of organizing their forms so users can find what they need. Browse through their online Help for assistance on how to fill out the forms and what materials you will need to send in. With a little investigation and work you can do it all yourself. If you need more assistance there are several commercial websites that will help.

Submission Etiquette for New Writers

One of the goals of writing is to get your work published. It is the ultimate proof your writing ability. It takes some writers years to reach the point where they are secure enough to seek publication. When you feel ready to start submitting your work, you want to be sure you are professional. Here are some things to keep in mind when dealing with the publishing world.

Always research any market you are going to submit your work to. Get a copy of the guidelines from the magazine and if you can afford to, a sample copy as well. It does you no good to send a poem to a magazine editor who only publishes short stories.

Follow the submission guidelines from the markets you have chosen to submit to. if an editor gets two submissions, one that follows their guidelines and one that does not, which one do you think he is going to read? On the same note, learn what proper manuscript format is and be sure to use it on each submission you send. There are many excellent books on the subject. Check with your local library for books on manuscript formatting.

When you send a submission, always include a cover letter typed in standard business letter format. The first paragraph should be about your submission. The second paragraph should be about your qualifications to write the manuscript. The third can be about your impressions of the publication you are submitting to. The fourth can be your publication credits. End with any enclosures - like SASE’s - and a looking forward to hearing from you. Remember to keep your cover letter short and informative. Do not go on about your family life or your hobbies unless the information is required to show your experience.

Unless you are submitting to a foreign country or a foreign language market, your submission should be written in American English. There are special exceptions, such as dialogue, but for the most part, editors will not take the time to translate a manuscript in another language, they will just reject it.

Do not use another person’s writings as your own. Plagiarism is illegal and actionable in a court of law. Also, if you quote another writer’s work, be sure to cite your source

When you present yourself to an editor, be truthful about your qualifications. Do not lie to an editor to make yourself look more important. The lie will almost always be found out and will only make you look foolish. Also, do not make up information in your non-fiction writings. These lies can be discovered quite easily and will ruin your reputation.

Do not promise anything you cannot do and always follow through with everything you have promised. A writer who constantly breaks their promises will find themselves not very trusted by their editors.

Behave in a professional, business-like manner at all times. Do not yell, belittle, or threaten an editor or another writer. Keep a level head, even when others are losing theirs. You want to keep the working relationships you have and show the people you work with that you respect them. Be straightforward and always be sure you are speaking to the correct person. It does no good to talk with the receptionist when the editor is the person who can help you.

Behaving professionally and appropriately when you send your work out and when you deal with editors will speak volumes about you as a writer. Put yourself on your best behavior and you cannot go wrong.

Why And How To Write Articles

When it comes to SEO and a stream of long term traffic to your site there really is only one way to go.

Articles are the best way to ensure that you have constant links to your site circling the web with a one time only input from yourself. And the best thing about article writing is that it doesn’t cost you a penny – in any currency.

Here’s how it works:

-make a list of the things that you know enough about to be able to write a helpful and informative article on.

-Brainstorm the points that the article needs to cover,

-choose 3 or 4 main points and write a few sentences around them that can qualify them as ‘valuable content’

-put all that together into an article of around no more than 800 words (you don’t want to bore people away) 500-600 is best practice.

-close your notebook and leave it for a couple of days.

Why? Do you remember when you were in school and the teacher always used to tell you to ‘make sure you read over your work.’ Well they were right. If you submit your article straight away you will inevitably come back to it later and think to yourself that this sentence doesn’t make sense or that you could have worded that better. If you give yourself some time away from it and then come back with ‘fresh eyes’ you will be in a much better position to objectively critique your work.

Once you are happy with your article copy you will need to submit it to article and ezine directories so that editors and site owners can pick it up and use it as content in their own sites.

There are two ways to do this.

a) You can manually submit your article to your preferred sites which means that you will have total control over who your article goes to or

b) You can use automatic article submission. Submitting your article automatically will save you hours once you get going as you will only need to submit your article once and the website or software that you use will then take over to add it to thousands of lists.

The choice is yours but it’s pretty much a no brainer…

Make sure that you close each article with some information about yourself which lets people know that they are free to use your article and also tells them a little about you including a link or two to your own site(s). This is known as a signature box.

Along with providing good quality content a signature box is the whole reason for you writing the article as it will let people know that you are a leader in your field and where they can find out more about you and your business.

Once your articles start to circulate you will find that the number of visitors to your site will grow and so, therefore, will the revenue you make.

Articles are a great way to position yourself as a leader in your field, so be sure to write about what you know about. Don’t try to make things up as people will be able to tell and you will not be taken seriously.

Practically all web marketing gurus see eye to eye on this – One of the major factors to effective web marketing is with article marketing.

Now that you understand you want to capitalize on the potential of web marketing using articles, you have to work on writing articles to attract three, vastly unique targets with one article.

The three audiences of article marketing and how to write great headlines for each:
